  1. Proper Maintenance is Essential To Eliminate Vehicle Downtime

If you drive a vehicle or operate a piece of equipment every day, a hydraulic hose or fitting is being used to operate what you are using. Some items that we use on a daily basis may have only two hydraulic hoses, while others may go into the hundreds.

Proper maintenance of these items is essential in eliminating expense repairs or unexpected downtime. There is a reason when your mechanic recommends a power steering flush or brake flush on your vehicle from time to time? The chemical composition of power steering fluid and brake fluid is to absorb water molecules from the working pumps and hoses in hydraulic systems.

At CDI, we provide hydraulic filtration kits for a large variety of equipment that our customers use. From the Railroad industry to the construction market and beyond.

We also offer our customers leading technology products to reduce their TCO. Contact us here for more information on how we can assist you.

  3. Diesel Engines are Revolutionizing Agriculture

U.S. based agriculture has changed drastically over the past few decades. Even though farm and plot sizes have increased, the introduction of automation and mechanization has offered farmers the ability to work independently without being completely reliant on seasonal labor.

    Diesel Tractor Agriculture

In our previous blogs we’ve discussed some of the different industries where diesel engines are used, as well as the shift to clean diesel technology only.  Below we look at the reasons why the diesel industry is vital to US agriculture.

Why is Diesel the Mainstay of US Agriculture?

Diesel isn’t just the life blood of tractors and vehicles racing across the highways. Agricultural equipment has also left gasoline alternatives behind to embrace diesel. There are a number of advantages accompanying this move:

    1. Diesels produce more torque at lower engine speeds thanks to combustion ignition.
    2. Diesel engines typically use 25% to 35% less fuel than spark based engines. For low-speed applications, this is even more critical.
    3. Diesels can support high power outputs at low speeds. Diesel engines produce less wasted heat and in the process they can tow heavy loads and run for longer periods of time without causing damage to the moving parts of the engine.
    4. The durability of diesel engines is unquestionable. They don’t need to be called in for frequent repairs or re-buildings, and when an overhaul is needed the process is far less complicated than for other engines.

Diesel Gets Better with New Clean Technology:

The clean technology diesel engines are a marvel of technological advancement. They have leveraged the trifecta of low sulfur fuel, clean burning mechanism, and effective emission control and exhaust treatment to already reduce 7.5 million tons of NOX, 39 million tons of CO2 and have saved over 65 million barrels of diesel oil since 2010.

Diesel fuel and clean tech diesel engines are not only making US agriculture more productive and economically important, they are also working behind the scenes to conserve fuel, save money and cut down on noxious fumes which add to the pollution caused by this sector.

At Central Diesel Inc. we are a premium distributor of diesel engines, parts, and other custom services. Our mission is to be a quality supplier of diesel engines and parts as well as offering unsurpassed solutions to our customers.  For more information on the products we offer, please contact us here.

  4. The Importance of Vehicle Maintenance

Performing day to day vehicle maintenance requires making the proper decisions on filters and engine oil being used.  While most filter manufacturers promote their products to meet or exceed the engine manufacturers requirements, the question that needs to be asked is: “Which requirement are the engine manufacturers following and are these filter replacements meeting the current updated requirements?”

    Vehicle Maintenance for diesel engines

Example:  When Bosch, Denso or Delphi supplies a CR fuel system to an engine manufacturer they supply the engine manufacturer with the following information:

    A) If you want the fuel system to be able to last trouble free for 200,000 miles under normal maintenance intervals: Use a 10 Micron filter as your final filter to the vehicle fuel system.

    B) If you want the fuel system to be able to last trouble free for 300,000 miles under normal maintenance intervals: Use a 2 Micron filter as your final filter to the vehicle fuel system.

Repairing a contaminated CR fuel system on an over the road vehicle can cost $6,000.00 to $12,000.00.  Performing proper preventive maintenance on your vehicle or equipment will reduce the possibility of these devastating issues affecting your TCO.

As a factory authorized CR repair center for all the manufacturers, we can offer you our expertise (over 200 years of experience) and products in assisting you in maintaining your vehicle or equipment properly.  Contact us for more information on proper vehicle maintenance.

In our September blog, we mentioned that “Clean Diesel Engines” were leading the way to a cleaner environment around the world in all market segments.

Deutz has been one of the leaders in this break-through technology, to meet emission regulations today and into the future. Rudolf Diesel, the inventor of the diesel engine, was one of the founding fathers of Deutz over 150 years ago.

Deutz continues this legacy by offering their customers initial cost effective solutions and reduced total cost of ownership expenses compared to their competition.

As a distributor and partner of Deutz, CDI is committed to offering our customers the best service solutions today and into the future. To meet these obligations, CDI has to continually invest in training and tooling to meet the high standards of Deutz and our customer’s expectations.

CDI commits $50,000 To $150,000 each year to training and equipment to meet and exceed these standards for our customers. CDI verifies this commitment by supplying our customers with a 14 month unlimited hours or miles warranty on service work.

Our commitment to a high service standard is reflected in our standing with Deutz Corporation:

  7. The Shift to Clean Diesel Engines

Pollution from engine emissions has always been a concern as heavy duty trucks became the go to transportation option for freight and cargo shipments. In 2000, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recognized the dangers emissions from heavy-duty trucks and buses could cause and developed rules and regulations to limit them.  These new standards were designed to cut the allowable levels of sulfur in diesel fuel by 97% by 2010.  By 2007, all heavy-duty diesel trucks sold had to have particulate emissions levels of no more than 0.01 grams per brake horsepower hour.

Here in 2016 we are witnessing the results of these regulations.  According to the Diesel Technology Forum (DTF) more than 40% or about 4 million of the 9.5 million medium and large diesel trucks on the road have shifted over to newer technology clean diesel engines.  These trucks have particulate emissions levels near zero, which is resulting in clean air benefits being felt all over the U.S.  These new engines also are benefiting truckers by showing 3-5% improvements in fuel economy from the older style diesel engines.

The Rise of the New Clean Diesel Engines:

In Indiana, Utah, Oklahoma and Texas, more than 50% of all trucks boast the new recommended clean diesel engine technology. California and Oregon are close behind with growing numbers of newer diesel truck registrations.  It is evident that the engine has achieved something almost impossible – it has satisfied the mandates of the Environment Protection Agency and has managed to incentivize its adoption through enhanced fuel efficiency. The future of emissions pollution control in the US looks bright.

  10. Where are Diesel Engines Used?

When most people think of diesel engines, they envision a big rig truck going down the highway.  Trucks aren’t the only place where diesel engines are used though.  Many different types of vehicles use diesel engines due to their efficiency and durability, and many industries rely on them to carry out important tasks.  Besides vehicles, important tools like generators are also run by diesel engines as they are a better bet not to fail than a gasoline powered generator.

    Where are Diesel Engines Used

    Diesel Engines Uses and Applications:

    • Passenger Cars:  In Europe and India, passenger cars powered by diesel engines are very common.  At city speeds, diesel engines tend to be more economical than gasoline powered engines.  They also tend to last longer, making them more reliable.  Diesel-powered cars are generally considered a low CO2 option, making them popular for the environmentally conscious in Europe as well.  While not all that common in the United States, they could grow in popularity as drivers continue to want to lower the carbon emissions of the vehicle they drive.
    • Railroad Locomotives:  Diesel engine locomotives are popular throughout the world in areas where track electrification is not feasible.  They are the engine type of choice for cargo hauling freight trains which have heavier loads and require a strong engine.
    • Marine Vehicles:  Many different types of marine vehicles from cruise and cargo ships to privately owned leisure boats use diesel engines.  Reciprocating diesel engines are used in many marine vehicles due to their fuel economy and operating simplicity as compared to other engine types.  Their ability to power larger vehicles makes them a popular choice for ships and boats.
    • Construction and Farming Equipment: The reliability and power of diesel engines make them the engine of choice for large construction equipment like front loaders and bulldozers.  Diesel engines are also used in many types of farming equipment, such as tractors due their durability and efficiency.

At Central Diesel we offer a variety of different diesel engines for various applications.  Visit our website to see our full product line and follow us on Twitter and LinkedIn for the latest company news and updates.
